February by the Numbers
Well, the second month of the year has passed, Punxsatawney Phil stuck his furry little head out of his burrow and declared six more weeks of winter (I don’t like prognosticating rodents!), and I’m 8 weeks into a heavy aerobic base building phase. This month started off great, built to an excellent round of long rides but was dashed away in the last 2 days with saddle sores…my first ever in over 20 years of riding thanks to 3 hours on a really bad stationary bike seat at a Los Angeles hotel (which shall remain nameless…for now!). In any case, it was a great February getting the aerobic base together for a summer of racing. So far I’m locked in for the Dead Dog Classic in Wyoming and the Mt. Evans Hill Climb in Colorado. I bumped the Boulder Half-Ironman from the calendar because I was slow on registering and it filled up already! So, anyway, here is my February by the numbers. How did your February training go?

Ouch! Saddle sores, that sucks. I travel to L.A. a lot…come on which hotel was it?
Um, the hotel, right. Let’s just say if you’re ever staying at the Biltmore Millenium you should bring your own bike…or your own saddle. The stationary bike there is vintage 1980’s. No tension adjustment that I could figure out and the display on the thing said I was riding at 36 MPH (which, according to my HR monitor and my cadence, I cerrtainly was not!). Anyway, if you’re going to be staying there, rent a bike somewhere but stay away from the “fitness center”.
