Amazing Birthday Advice (Thanks 1999)

Post written by Chris. Follow me on Twitter 7 comments

Wow, another year come and gone…and they just keep going faster.  Yup, you guessed it, today’s my birthday.  It’s been a year full of some of the biggest ups and definitely some of the biggest downs in my life.  My most sincere and heartfelt thanks to all of my friends and family who stood shoulder to shoulder with me through the rough spots and kept me smiling and laughing and loving life. Thanks to all of you, I’m happy to still be alive and breathing on planet Earth. Of course my deepest thanks goes as always to the unsung hero of my life, my wife. And to my two little sons who keep me smiles everyday, I can never repay the debt.  My amazingly awesome brother Glenn sent this video of an old “song” from way back in 1999 called Everybody’s Free (to Wear Sunscreen).  Maybe you don’t remember it but check it out, it’s a great video to watch at least once every year and it’s full of absolutely the most useful  advice for living!

Killing Time with Jens Voigt

Post written by Chris. Follow me on Twitter 1 comment

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times: In my dreams, I’m Jens Voigt.  Well, last night I was killing time and found two great clips from Jens.  He’s not talking about cycling.  He’s not even talking about bikes.  They’re two video clips of Jens on a rest day during last year’s Tour de France and he’s talking about how and what he packs in his suitcase.  So, if you’re a Jens freak like I am, check these out and find out why Jens is a genius.

True Love on a Bicycle Built for Two

Post written by Chris. Follow me on Twitter 11 comments

This is a guest post from my buddy Joel Ankeny. Joel told me this amazing story about his great-grandparents and I thought it would be great to share with all of you.
“Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do
I’m half crazy all for the love of you
It won’t be a stylish marriage
I can’t afford a carriage
But you’ll look sweet upon the seat
Of a bicycle built for two”

Almost every cyclists knows these lyrics from the Harry Dacre song “Daisy Bell”.  On September 18, 1934 my great-grandparents brought this song to life on their wedding day.  My great-grandfather, Adam Preisinger, came from a family of well-known cyclists – all of his brothers and sisters raced.  He served as the chairman and secretary of the Century Road Club Association (CRCA – Still in existence today as the biggest cycling club in the USA) in the 1930‘s.  Later in life he officiated many of the races at the Lake Clifton, MD track.

Sharing the Love of Cycling with Your Children

Post written by Chris. Follow me on Twitter 3 comments

It was a special day around my house today.  It all started when my little guy, who had just recently had his birthday, woke up and said to me “Daddy, I’m 4 now! Can we take off my training wheels?” I’m sure every other parent out there completely understands what a trying day this can be.  I wasn’t worried though. I had a pretty good inkling that this was going to be a great day. My son is pretty coordinated for his age and I was just waiting for him to decide to give it a go on his own.  I knew he could do it and I’m pretty sure he did too.  When the big moment came, I literally gave him a push, felt him gain his balance, let go and off he went…a complete natural! His big brother and I ran along side and cheered him on as he rode down our street.  It was a big day to be sure.
