June by the Numbers
Wow, June flew by fast. I was so busy getting out and riding that I didn’t realize I had only written one blog post since May! Sorry everyone. June was an intense month on the bike. I spent most of June bulking up on climbing rides and doing a few hill climb races to get my legs ready for the Mt. Evans Hill Climb later this month. I finished the Rist Canyon Hill Climb and felt really good and did the first stage of the Dead Dog Classic (a big hill climb to 10,800 feet). I opted to not do the final two stages of the Dead Dog (a crit and a time trial) mostly because I don’t like crits. I also got to spend the last three days of June training higher in the Rocky Mountains to get myself a little more used to the thinner air that I’ll be breathing on Mt. Evans. Check out some of the photos from the training rides here. Well anyway, I’m looking forward to a busy July with the TdF starting this weekend and my final prep for Mt. Evans. OK, enough blabbering, here are my numbers for June:
May by the Numbers
Wow, May flew by quickly this year! Seems like my summer race season is fast approaching and it’s time to shift into high speed in June. But May was all about interval workouts for me, especially time trial and climbing intervals. This month, the overall mileage went down but the intensity was way high! So far I’m feeling good and on pretty good form. I still need to drop a few pounds before Mt. Evans in July, but right now I’m looking forward to June (although I’m not looking forward to turning 43 this month!). My June calendar is about more climbing intervals as I get ready for Mt. Evans, but it’ll also include some racing at the Rist Canyon Hill Climb and the Dead Dog Classic Stage Race. Anyway, here is my May by the numbers courtesy of Daytum.com:
April by the Numbers
April turned out to be one crazy month this year. We had plenty of sunshine here in Fort Collins, but we also had plenty of snow and foul weather. Between the weather and the fact that my training moved into a lactate threshhold/strength training phase, my mileage was down from last month. But intensity was way up. I also did some good climbing training and a time trial in the Horsetooth Time Trial Series. The time trial turned out to be pretty exciting with GarminlTranisitions’ Tom Danielson going head-to-head with Fly V Autralia’s Phil Zajicek. They both finished about 16 minutes ahead of me…proving why they ride bikes for a living and I have a day job! Anyway, April was great and I’m looking forward to May. Here are my numbers for April from Daytum.com:
Indoor Cycling Playlists
I might be a little late posting this as the weather is beginning to warm and we’re all starting to emerge from our winter training caves. But, I thought I’d throw my indoor training playlist out there along with some links to other cool places to get workout playlists from too. And please, if you want to add your playlist or other playlist links here, leave a comment with your training favs or links to other places to find great training music.
